Rapid 260AF

Liquid Setting Accelerator for Shotcrete

Product Description

Rapid 260AF is a liquid non-alkaline sprayed concrete for use in a wide range of sprayed concrete applications which require rapid development of early strength, with no or minimal reduction in ultimate strength of the concrete.

Advantages

  • Non-alkaline formulation presents greatly reduced EHS hazard compared to aluminate based accelerators.
  • Enables quicker setting action and increased layer thickness for overhead work.
  • Highly active formulation for lowest dosage.
  • Ultimate strength of concrete is only slightly affected, if at all, allowing the use of permanent sprayed concrete.
  • Reduces rebound and wastage. • Economical in use.
  • Wet-spraying as well as dry-spraying methods.
  • Increased adhesion and rapid early age strength development are achieved with concrete having a total water/cement-ratio below 0.5.
  • Liquid product – easily measured and dosed into the mix.

Typical Properties

Appearance yellowish liquid

Compatibility

With Cements:

Rapid 260AF can be used with all types of Portland Cement, including Sulphate Resisting Cement, however site trials to assess dosage are recommended.

For use with special cements we recommend that you consult GCP.

With other admixtures:

Rapid 260AF should not be pre-mixed with other admixtures prior to addition to the mixture. The performance of the material may be affected by the presence of other chemicals. We recommend that GCP be consulted in such circumstances.

Addition Rates

Range: 3% - 8% by weight of cement

As with most products of this type, the magnitude of the effect obtained with Rapid 260AF is governed by the quantity of product used, cement source, water-cementitious ratio, and the ambient temperature and the substrate temperature. Therefore, the performance of Rapid 260AF is best assessed after preliminary trials on site using actual site materials.

As a guide to these trials, an addition level of 5% – 6% Rapid 260AF by weight of cement is recommended.

For advice and assistance with your trials we recommend that you consult GCP Applied Technologies.

Packaging

Rapid 260AF is supplied in 1000 litre free, non-returnable containers.

Alternatively, bulk deliveries can be arranged.

Storage

Rapid 260AF should be stored in polypropylene, polyethylene PVC or stainless steel tanks. It should not be stored in mild steel tanks as corrosion will occur.

Rapid 260AF should be stored at temperatures below 35°C to prolong shelf-life. Protect from direct sunlight.

Protect from frost. If the product does become frozen, it should be carefully mixed after thawing out to restore it to its normal state.

Effects of Overdosing

The effects of overdosing Rapid 260AF are a function of the degree of overdose.

Depending on the extent of the overdose, a decrease in the setting time may occur causing difficulty with spraying and reduced adhesion.

Dispensing

It is preferable that liquid admixtures for sprayed concrete be introduced into the mix at the nozzle by means of a simple hose pump or reciprocating pump.

Health and Safety

Rapid 260AF is a weakly acidic product, therefore we recommend taking the same safety measures for the handling of the product as for cement containing products.

Rapid 260AF is formulated from chemicals which present no fire hazards. If, however, it is spilt the floor will be made slippery and should be washed down immediately with cold water.
