BC 26

Cement Additive for Special Cements

Product Description

BC 26 is a chemical additive to be interground during the manufacture of masonry cements and/or multipurpose cements, to provide good workability and long board life through controlled air
entrainment and high water retention. BC 26 eliminates the need to add at the job site separatematerials to impart this combination of properties to the mortar. BC 26 is based on an aqueous
solution of selected raw materials to suit the requirements of the cement manufacture.

Physical Properties

BC 26
Appearance Brown liquid
Density (g/l) 1030-1050
pH 9,0-11,0

Recommended Addition Rate

According to GCP experience the addition rate of BC 26 is typically in the range of 600-1200 g/t of treated masonry cement. However the optimum addition rate of BC 26 depends on the type of masonry cement and the performances requirements.

GCP personnel are available for assistance.

Deviation from the optimum cannot guarantee the expected results.

Overdosing can increase the air entrainment.

Advantages

  • Controlled air entrainment
  • Excellent workability, extended boardlife
  • Improved flexural bond strength
  • High water retention
  • Reduced tendency of re-agglomeration
  • Improved flowability

Benefits

BC 26 provides an air entrainment accomplished by the development of stabilised micro bubbles, which act like flexible ball bearings, increasing the plasticity and workability of the mortar produced with the treated cement. This technology, developed at the research laboratories of GCP, provides excellent workability and extended board life with a significantly lower amount of air than the more traditional technologies, so that other mechanical properties, as the flexural bond strength, are improved.

Through the higher water retention, placeability is improved and bleeding, plastic shrinkage and segregation are minimised. BC 26 is also a grinding aid which reduces the tendency of reagglomeration of the fine particles formed during the comminution process.

BC 26 permits improvements of the flowability, of the efficiency of mill and separator and thus increase in production rate with corresponding reduction in grinding energy.

BC 26 controls effectively the setting process and permits significant extension of the board life.

BC 26 enhances the hydration process of the hydraulic binder and therefore mortars with higher compressive strengths can be produced.

Certification

BC 26 meets the requirements of EN 197.

Typical Applications

BC 26 is designed for the economical production of high quality masonry cement such as Type MC 5 and MC 12.5 described under ENV 413. Multipurpose cements with high filler contents can also be produced in compliance with the EN 197 requirements.

How to Use

BC 26 should be added on to the feed belt or injected pure or diluted (also with the cooling water) into the mill. For an accurate proportioning of BC 26 a volumetric metering pump is suitable. GCP personnel are available for assistance.

Packaging and Storage

BC 26 is supplied in 205 litre drums, in 1000 litre plastic containers or bulk.
BC 26 does not require particular precaution for the storage.
Care has to be taken during the unloading operation: it would be suggested to fill the tank from the bottom.
BC 26 has to be protected from freezing.
For tanks and containers placed outside a heating system or a re-mixing device is suitable.
It is also better to insulate exposed pipelines.
GCP personnel can help in designing the best system.
Shelf life is at least 12 months if stored in sealed manufacturer’s containers.

Handling Precautions

BC 26 does not require particular precaution for health and safety. For further advice please read the Material Safety Data Sheet. Accidental release or spillage to be absorbed with an inert,
non combustible material, such as sand or sawdust. Tanks and container can be cleaned with water.
